About Us
Calamity Comics™ is a Chicago-based comic publisher founded by Elliott Mondry and Alicia Madden created to bring awareness to mental health.
The name "Calamity Comics" came to Elliott and Alicia sitting at their local comic shop looking out the window on a rainy day as they were workshopping names. The meaning behind "Calamity Comics" comes from breaking up the word "calamity" into "call" and "amity." Within times of calamity there is often a call to amity by someone suffering, calling out hoping for better times to come. Combining this creates "Calamity," hence Calamity Comics was born. We stand as a beacon of hope for those suffering in silence that even though things may seem bad, there is always amity to be found.
As a company, we know what it's like to need support during a time of darkness, and that's why our mission is to write stories for those suffering in silence. Even though we don’t know what others are going through, we care all the same. Whatever someone may be going through, we want you to always remember: you are not alone, and you are loved
